Printers 101: 6 Facts You Need to Know about Canon Portable Printers for Laptops

There are only a few Canon portable printers for laptops. But before you try and search for these printers on the internet, or even shop for one, here are some basic facts that you should know about these devices.

Fact #1: Canon portable printers only come in two models – the PIXMA iP100 and the BJC-55.

There are very few models of compact printers in the market which are not made for compact printing, and only two of them come from Canon. These two models are the PIXMA iP100 and the BJC-55. The BJC-55 is a bubble jet printer which is an inkjet printer that makes use of a bubble-forming mechanism to produce droplets of ink that will drop from the nozzles to the paper. The PIXMA iP100 is an inkjet printer which makes use of standard printing to produce printouts.

Fact #2: The BJC-55 has already been phased out of production and only the PIXMA iP100 is available brand new in the market today.

Although both models are quite popular, the BJC-55 is a much older version which has already been phased out by the company. There are no more shops, stores, or even online shopping centers that sell the device as a brand new model. The PIXMA iP100, on the other hand, is available in most computer and printer stores, both online and offline.

Fact #3: The BJC-55 has basic features for easy laptop printing.

The BJC-55 has features including print speeds of 5.5 ppm for black and 2 ppm for colored printouts; 720×360 dpi resolution; USB connectivity with laptop; fast infrared connectivity; built-in rechargeable battery; and standard media size printing including letter, legal, and A4 paper sizes. The device is also very compact and lightweight so it’s perfect for laptop printing.

Fact #4: The PIXMA iP100 has upgraded features as compared to those of the BJC-55.

The iP100 has much better features than the BJC-55 primarily because it’s a much later model. The only drawback is that the iP100 does not have an integrated battery and you need to buy one separately. Nonetheless, the iP100 has excellent features including built-in infrared connectivity, optional Bluetooth connectivity, PictBridge and USB connectivity, standard size document compatibility, and compact build.

Fact #5: The BJC-55 is only available as a secondhand or used device but its price can still be quite high.

Because of its limited availability, the BJC-55 has turned out to become somewhat a vintage product, and its price is now much higher than it originally was. Even though it’s only sold as a secondhand model, its prices can range from around $250 to $400, which many people find very high for such a model of printer.

Fact #6: The PIXMA iP100 is available in very reasonable prices in most computer stores.

In contrast with the BJC-55, the iP100 is a very reasonably priced device. Although its standard price is still around $250, for its excellent performance and great features, the value of this printer is worth the investment. It’s also a great laptop printer and its features are specifically engineered for that purpose, so anyone would benefit from the use of such a device.

Conclusion

Canon portable printers for laptops may be limited to one or two models, but they certainly are very good choices for your laptop printing needs. However, you need to make sure that you only buy from a reliable store.
